Magic Kit Videos & Instructions Manual
See below for videos and text instructions for how to do some of the many tricks available in your new Magic Kit from 3 Bees & Me and impress your friends and family with your magical abilities!
1. MONEY TRANSFORMER TRICK
Your money transformer can do all sorts of cool tricks. It can make coins vanish and reappear and even change one coin into another! Take a look at both parts of the prop. You will see that one part has a circular section in the middle of it. It is in this circular section that you will put a coin later on. This part of the prop is called the slide. The slide fits into the opening of the base part of the prop, with the dollar sign on top of it. The slide has a secret compartment that is so well hidden you probably didn’t even notice it. It is the circular section itself. There are actually two circles in the slide!
Take a coin and place it in the circle and with your finger, push the coin to the left or right slightly until it moves. You should now see the other circular section. Before your show, take a coin and place it in the circle and push it into the secret compartment. Now put the slide into the base and then take it out immediately. If the coin is there, then turn the slide around and put it into the base with the other end first. When you take the slide out the coin should be gone. Put the slide back in this same way and leave it there until you are ready to perform.
During your show, take the slide out and show that there is nothing in it. Don’t shake the slide too much or they will hear the hidden coin inside. Now you must do a sneaky but simple move. You must turn the slide around before putting it back in the base. Do this casually as you are showing the props to your friends. Now tell them that you will make money appear. Say a few magic words, take out the slide and there is your coin! Tip it over and drop the coin into your hand. Then put your special props away!
2. VANISHING MONEY TRICK
It is just as easy to make a coin vanish as it is to make one appear. Since you know how the Money Transformer works, it will be easy for you to do these next couple of tricks. Before your show, put a coin in the circle and without pushing it in with your finger just put the slide into the base. If the coin is still there when you take the slide out, then you know that to make it vanish, you must turn the slide around when you are ready to perform the trick. If it disappeared when you put the slide in, then simply turn it around, so it appears again. You are now ready to make the coin vanish for your show!
3. CHANGING ONE COIN INTO ANOTHER TRICK
Using the same prop as in the Vanishing Money Trick, to change one coin into another, all you have to do is put a coin into the secret compartment and leave it there. During your show, display another coin and put it into the slide, making sure you know which side to put in first. Now when you are ready to perform, the first coin will change into the hidden one!
4. THE SPIKED COIN TRICK
The spiked coin comes with a cylinder (in two parts), five spikes, and the coin. To do this amazing trick, you will need to open the cylinder and place the coin that came with your kit or a real coin into the round section on the bottom of the cylinder, and then cover it with the top. Make sure that the top goes on correctly. You will see a notch in the bottom part that fits into any of the four recesses on the top part. Placing the two parts together like this will ensure that the holes on both the bottom and top part are aligned properly.
You are now going to place the five spikes into the holes on the top and they will pass all the way through the coin and out of the bottom of the cylinder! Well, not really!
You are going to place the first spike in such a way, that the coin will turn sideways within the cylinder allowing the spikes to pass on all sides of it. Hold the cylinder with the top holes facing you.
If the cylinder were a clock, one of the four outer holes should be facing the six o’clock position. Place the first spike into this hole. As the spike touches the coin it will push its outer edge down and force the coin to turn on its side.
You will know if this was done correctly if the spike goes all the way through the bottom, and if you can now see all the other bottom holes through the top.You will now place the next spike into the center hole. Then proceed to place all the other spikes into the other holes.
After all the spikes are placed, take them out one at a time and then open the cylinder and immediately tip out the coin to show that it is unharmed!
5. MONEY FACTORY TRICK
Here’s a prop that is more than it first appears to be. It looks like a base with a lid that covers it, but actually there is a secret extra piece that can be hidden in the lid!
If you put a coin on the real base and cover it with the extra piece it will look like an empty base. You can now show the lid to be empty and put it over the base. Press the top of the lid down a little and say a magic word. Lift away the lid and the extra piece will be carried away to reveal the coin. You can say, “That’s how I make my money!”
6. PICKPOCKET TRICK
Using the same prop as in the Money Factory Trick, start with the extra piece on top of the base. Place a coin on top of the extra piece and cover it with the lid. Press down on the lid and say, “I’m going to try and steal the coin without you seeing me do it!” Lift the lid to show that the coin has vanished!
7. PICKPOCKET POCKET TRICK
Using the same prop as in the Money Factory Trick, do the PickPocket Trick above, but start with a duplicate coin inside your pocket. After the coin has vanished, you say, “of course the coin has to go somewhere, check this out!” You can then show them that the coin has magically traveled to your pocket!
8. INFLATION TRICK
Using the same prop as in the Money Factory Trick, your money factory can also switch coins for you!
Start with a nickel on the base and cover it with the extra piece. During your performance, show a penny and put it onto the extra piece. Cover it with the lid and press down. As you do this say, “As a magician I am never short of money! All I need to do is cover a penny and say the magic word, inflation!” Lift the lid to show that the penny has miraculously changed into a nickel!
9. HEADS OR TAILS TRICK
Using the same prop as in the Money Factory Trick, before your show, put a penny on the base, tail side up, covering it with the extra piece. During your performance, show your friends a penny, and put it head side up on the extra piece. Say, “I can always win a call of heads or tails by magic!”
Cover the coin with the lid and say, “The coin is heads up, but if somebody calls out tails I can still win with my amazing powers!”
Lift the lid to show that the coin has changed to be tails up!
Finish by saying, “I love it when a plan comes together!”
10. THE MAGIC MONEY TUBE TRICK
The Crystal Tube is actually made up of two tubes. Before your show, place the smaller tube inside of the larger one. No one is supposed to know about this secret insert!
When you are ready to perform, sit down at a table and roll or fold up a dollar bill and place it inside of the inner tube.
Now roll the tubes inside of a piece of paper with the opening of the tubes facing your right. Now twist the left end of the tube as you turn the right side towards yourself. Secretly allow the inner plastic tube with the hidden dollar bill to slip out of the paper and into your lap!
Then, twist the other end closed.
Now, make a magical gesture or say a few magic words, and then open the paper. The dollar bill will be gone!
If you want you can have the spectator open the paper instead and as he is doing that you can place the tube on your lap into your pocket.
After the trick you can put your hand in your pocket and slide the dollar bill out of the inner tube and hand it to them for an even more impressive ending!
11. COUNTDOWN TRICK
Using the same tube as in the Magic Money Tube Trick, place two dollar bills inside an envelope. During your show, open the envelope and remove one of the dollar bills, being careful that the audience does not see the second dollar bill.
Close up the envelope and put it off to the side.
Put the dollar bill into your tube and wrap it in a sheet of paper, letting the inner tube fall into your lap. Tell the audience that this time-traveling trick takes ten seconds.
Do a countdown from 10 to 1, then open up the paper to reveal that the dollar bill has vanished.
Open the envelope to show the dollar bill inside and say, “It traveled back in time!”
12. SILKWORM TRICK
Using the same tube as in the Magic Money Tube Trick, if you don’t want to use money, you can use your tube to make just about anything vanish that will fit into it.
A favorite of many professionals who use this item is to make a small handkerchief vanish that has been stuffed into the tube.
Use your imagination as to what you could make vanish!
13. CRYSTAL COIN CASE TRICK
During your show, place one clear sheet on the table and on top of it place the small plastic frame with the circle cut out. Into the circle, put a coin. You can use a real coin if you like, or you can use the small plastic coin provided.
On top of that, place the other clear sheet. Now, lock everything together with the four rubber bands provided, and if any of them break, you can use any small rubber band as a replacement.
Comment to the audience that the coin is trapped inside the Coin Case. As you place the device under a napkin, squeeze it between your fingers and thumb from the sides and it will open up enough to allow the coin to fall secretly into your hand! Make sure that nobody sees the coin in your hand!
Let a friend hold the device through the cloth and casually put your hand in your pocket to get rid of the coin.
Say some magic words and then let your friend see that the coin has vanished!
14. COIN PUZZLE TRICK
Along with your specially printed card you’ll need a selection of coins. Get together a penny, nickel and quarter . Show your audience the card and coins and get them to guess which is the largest coin that can fit into the picture of the tabletop without overlapping the edges. They will be amazed to find that even the smallest coin won’t fit!
This astonishing optical illusion is a fun piece to do in the middle of your show.
15. MYSTICAL CUPS & POM-POMS TRICK
The trick consists of three cups and four pom-poms; however, the audience will only be aware of three pom-poms.
Before your show, put the three cups on your table with each mouth facing upwards. Put one cup on your left, one cup in the middle and one cup on the right.
Now, put the middle cup inside of the one on the left. Then put one of the pom-poms into the mouth of the cup. Next, put the cup on the right inside of the mouth of the top cup. Then put three pom-poms into the mouth of that cup.
When you are ready to perform the trick, hold the stack of cups in one hand, keeping all three cups together in the stack, and then tip the whole stack over (make sure the stack stays together) so that the three pom-poms fall out. Now, line up the pom-poms in a neat row on the table.
Now hold the stack mouth-upwards in one hand, and with the other hand pull the bottom cup off of the stack.
Make sure that you hold the mouth of the cup towards yourself as you remove it from the stack so as not to let the audience see inside of it and then turn the bottom cup over completely and place it mouth down onto the table directly behind the left pom-pom.
You will now do the same move with the next cup on the bottom of the stack, but you have to be extra careful not to let an audience member see inside the cup or they will see the hidden pom-pom.
Make sure you keep the mouth of this cup facing toward yourself as you quickly, in one smooth move, turn it over mouth down on the table and place it directly behind the middle pom-pom.
You will have to practice this move to make it smooth so that the hidden pom-pom doesn’t drop out where people can see it, but instead stays hidden inside of the cup as you put the cup mouth downwards on the table.
NOTE: Remember, the audience is not supposed to know that there is a hidden pom-pom underneath the cup. Now turn the last cup over and place it mouth downwards onto the table directly behind the right pom-pom. It is important that you turn each cup over in the same manner, always making sure that the mouth of the cup being turned over is facing you and not the audience.
16. POM-POM NUMBER ONE TRICK
Using the same items as in the Mystical Cups & Pom Poms Trick, pick up the pom-pom in the middle and put it on top of the middle cup. Now, put the cup on the left on top of the middle cup and pom-pom, and then put the cup on the right on top of that cup. Make a magical gesture or say a few magical words and then lift all three cups in a stack, holding the stack from the bottom cup. You will now see a pom-pom on the table. The audience will believe that you made the pom-pom pass through solid plastic!
17. POM-POM NUMBER TWO TRICK
Using the same items as in the Mystical Cups & Pom Poms Trick, you are now going to do the same basic moves as you did before.
First turn the entire stack over, mouth-upwards. Once again, pull the bottom cup off and place it mouth downwards on the table next to the single pom-pom that was just revealed.
Then, take the next cup from the bottom, turn it over, and place it on top of the single pom-pom that was just revealed. This is the cup you want to be most careful with because it is in this cup that the extra pom-pom is concealed. Remember, the audience doesn’t know about this pom-pom!
Now, turn the last cup over and place it to the right of that cup. Now, take one of the two pom-poms left on the table and place it on top of the middle cup.
Now, place the cup on the left on top of the middle cup and pom-pom and then place the cup on the right on top of the stack.
Tell the audience that you are going to make the second pom-pom join the first.
Say a few magical words and then lift the whole stack up from the bottom as you did before. You will now see two pom-poms!
18. POM-POM NUMBER THREE TRICK
Continuing on from the Pom-Pom Number Two Trick, now turn the entire stack over again, mouth upwards. Once again, take the bottom cup, turn it over and place it to the left of the two pom-poms that were just revealed.
Carefully remove the next bottom cup with its hidden pom-pom and turn it over and place it on top of the two pom-poms. There will now be three pom-poms underneath that cup but the audience will think there are only two.
Finally, turn over the last cup and place it to the right of the middle cup.
For this part of the trick, you will stack the cups a little differently than you did before.
Tell your audience that you will make this third pom-pom pass through two cups instead of just one.
Now place the cup on the left on top of the middle cup, place the last pom-pom on top of the stack, and place the third cup on top to complete the stack.
Make a magic gesture and lift the whole stack up holding them from the bottom cup and you will see all three pom-poms!
19. THE INVISIBLE POM-POM TRICK
You could end your routine with the last trick or you can add a really spectacular finale. Do the trick exactly as you did the last one (#18), but after showing three pom-poms under the cups turn the cups mouth upwards again.
This time the bottom cup has the hidden pom-pom in it. Turn this cup over carefully and place it on top of the three pom-poms on the table.
Turn over the bottom cup next, place it to the left of the cup with the pom-poms, and then place the next cup to the right of it.
Now, tell your audience there is an invisible pom-pom in your pocket.
Now, make believe you are taking a pom-pom out of your pocket and place this invisible pom-pom on top of the middle cup.
Then, place the left cup on top of it and the right cup on top of it to complete the stack.
Make a magic pass or say your favorite magical words and when the cups are lifted there are now four pom-poms under the cups and everything can be handed out for examination!
20. THE BALL VASE
The ball vase is made up of four parts, the vase base, the lid, a plastic ball and a secret half-ball, which fits on the vase base.
21. THE PUZZLING BALL TRICK
Before your show, put the real ball onto the vase base, cover it with the half-ball, and then cover that with the lid.
When you are ready to perform the trick, display the ball vase on your table and tell your audience that inside of this vase you have a ball. As you say this, take off the lid and the secret half ball too, holding them together as if they are one piece, as you point to the real ball sitting in the base. Take the ball out of the base, display it to the audience and then put it in your pocket.
Next, put the lid with the secret half-ball concealed inside of it back on top of the base. Now make a magical gesture or say a few magic words as you remove the lid ONLY! Make sure you do not take the concealed half-ball with it as you lift off the lid. They will be stunned to see the ball back on the base!
Remember, they do not know about the secret half-ball. They will think this is the same ball that you just put in your pocket! Then put the lid back on top, which sets things up for the next trick.
22. IT LEAPS BACK TRICK
As a follow-up to the above trick, you can make the ball disappear from the vase by once again by removing the lid along with the concealed half-ball, and holding them as one, just as you did before.
It will now look like the ball has disappeared from the vase. Then simply take the ball out of your pocket and tell them the ball had jumped back into your pocket.
23. THE TRANSFORMING BALL TRICK
For this trick you will not need the real ball, so put it aside for the moment. Before your show, put a very small amount of water, just a drop or two into the vase base and then cover it with the half-ball and lid.
When you are ready to perform, take the lid off ONLY! The audience will then see the half-ball, believing it to be the real ball.
Now, put the lid back on and tell the audience that you will magically melt the ball away. As you say this, remove both the lid and the concealed halfball as one and pour the water into a glass.
Please make sure that you have an adult’s permission to do this trick and that you are careful not to spill water on anything.
24. A GHOSTLY MESSAGE TRICK
Before your show, write down on a piece of paper the words “I’m in the magician’s pocket.” Then crumple the paper into a ball and put it in the vase and cover it with the half ball and lid. Also, before the show, put the real ball into your pocket.
When you are ready to perform the trick, show the ball vase on your table and remove just the lid. The audience will see the half-ball, believing it to be the real ball. Tell them that a friendly ghost lives inside of the ball. Put the lid back on and say, “Mr. Ghost, please reveal yourself.” Wait a moment and then say, “I don’t know where he could be, let’s look back in the vase.”
Now, take off the lid and the half-ball together, holding them as one. Show the audience that there is now a note inside of the vase. Ask one of the audience members to read the message out loud, and then take the ball out of your pocket!
25. THE THUMB TIP TRICK
The thumb tip is one of the most popular secret devices ever invented for magicians. It looks like a little plastic thumb, but you can use this sneaky device to create some absolutely astonishing magic.
The tip is worn on the end of your right thumb when you are going to perform your effects. It should be snug on the thumb, but your thumb should not go all the way in. There needs to be a space between the tip of your thumb and the end of the thumb tip to allow objects to be hidden inside.
When wearing the thumb tip, never show it directly to your friends but, instead, keep it hidden behind your fingers. If you keep your hands in motion the thumb tip will not be seen or suspected!
You can also point, briefly, directly at someone while wearing the thumb tip. If kept in motion the very tip of the thumb tip looks just like a real thumb. It is the sides and back of the thumb tip that you want to make sure they never see!
26. THE VANISHING HANDKERCHIEF TRICK
For many of the effects, such as the vanishing handkerchief, you will need to be able to secretly load the thumb tip into your left hand.
While holding the handkerchief with your right hand fingers and with the thumb tip already on your right thumb and hidden behind the handkerchief, bring the handkerchief over to the left hand. At the same time casually make a fist with your left hand.
Now, in one motion, stick your thumb with the thumb tip on it into the top of your left fist and quickly withdraw your thumb, leaving the thumb tip hidden in the top of your left fist. Now, immediately, start to push your handkerchief into the top of your left fist, using your first finger. You can also alternate using your middle finger or even your pinky.
Push the handkerchief all the way into the fist, and, for the last push or two, use your right thumb. On that last push you will secretly stick your thumb deep into the thumb tip and withdraw it out of your fist.
You now have the hidden handkerchief in the thumb tip on your right thumb. Do not look at your hands when you do this. Instead, look directly at your friends! You can now open your hands freely, to show that the handkerchief has disappeared. Just make sure that you are keeping your hands in motion and that you do not have the side or back of the thumb tip exposed. Instead, point your fingers toward the audience so all they see is the tip of the thumb tip!
You can now make your handkerchief reappear in a number of ways, including by sticking your right hand into your pocket and leaving the thumb tip, while withdrawing the handkerchief!
27. THE LAST PUSH TRICK
This will take you a little more practice, but it is a technique favored by many professional magicians. Instead of using your thumb for the last push or two, you will apparently use your fingers.
Poke in your right first finger as you did before, but this time move the opening of the thumb tip backwards so that it is sticking out of the back of your left fist with the left fingers keeping it against the left palm.
Keep the back of your hand to your friends so that they can’t see it. Now tap the top of your left fist with your right hand fingers and, as you do so, let your right thumb enter the thumb tip from behind and remove it from the back of the fist.
The beauty of this method is that the right thumb is never seen to enter the fist. Even if you are working with somebody who might know about thumb tips, this retrieval will fool them if done correctly!
28. RETRIEVING THE THUMB TIP TRICK
After the vanishing handkerchief trick, instead of ditching the thumb tip and handkerchief into your pocket, you can make the handkerchief reappear from your left fist.
After you show your hands to be empty, close your left fist once again and, using your right thumb with the hidden handkerchief inside the thumb tip, stick your thumb into the top of the fist.
With your right hand, make a magical pass over your fist, and then, using your right fingers and thumb, start to slowly pull the handkerchief out of your fist. Under cover of the handkerchief you are now holding with your right hand, casually stick your right thumb back inside your fist and retrieve the thumb tip.
You can then casually place your hand in your pocket and ditch the thumb tip!
29. A FUN REPRODUCTION TRICK
Here’s a great way to reproduce your handkerchief!
After you have made the handkerchief vanish say, “It must have gone somewhere! Let me look up your sleeve!” With your left hand hold your friend’s wrist at the end of their sleeve.
Now put your right hand against their sleeve so that your fingers covering your thumb. Your thumb (with the tip on it) goes into their sleeve. With your left fingers grip the thumb tip (through the sleeve) and drag out the handkerchief by removing your right thumb.
Once the handkerchief is free put your right thumb back into the tip and release their wrist. This astonishing effect is a favorite with many top professional magicians!
30. THE COST OF A HANDKERCHIEF TRICK
Have a quarter (or any small coin) in your left-hand pocket. As you go into your routine, put your left hand into your pocket and hide the coin in your hand at the base of your fingers.
Keep your fingers curled in so that when you remove your hand from your pocket the coin stays hidden. Now perform the vanish of a handkerchief just as you did above.
The only difference will be that you have a hidden coin in your left hand when you put the thumb tip there. At the end of the trick, the handkerchief will be in your thumb tip and the left hand will just contain the coin. Say, “Do you know how much that handkerchief cost me at the magic store?”
Whatever they say open your hand to show that the handkerchief has gone and there’s just the coin. Say, “It cost me exactly 25¢!”
31. VANISHING WATER TRICK
Your thumb tip can make lots of other things vanish for you. It can even make a small amount of liquid vanish, if you do this effect do it over a bowl or sink and not over an antique table!
Load the thumb tip into your left hand then pour in a tiny amount of water making sure it goes into the thumb tip. Steal the thumb tip just as you have done when making the silk vanish then say, “People have said that it is impossible to do magic with water but today we prove them wrong!”
Open your hand to show that the water has completely vanished! You can use any liquid here, magic pals!
32. SNAP IT TRICK
Snap It is a devious little magical prop that is made up of two parts. One is the base. It has a rubber band at one end and a hole at the other. The other part has a round top and a small hook at the bottom.
Place the hook end into the base, and try to hook the inside part of the rubber band. Then pull the hook out to see if you did. I bet you couldn’t! That is because the rubber band end on the inside of the base is too short to be grabbed by the hook. But with a sneaky little move you can make your friends believe that it can be done.
Here’s how. Place the hook end back in and then using your thumb and first finger pull it back out of the base just slightly. Now, with pressure try to snap your thumb tip and fingertip together, which will make the top snap out from their grip and back into the base.
The illusion will look like it snaps back in because there is tension from the rubber band. Of course it is not really hooked onto a rubber band, but your friends don’t know that.
The illusion will work even better if you give the top a few turns, before doing the snap. Then you can turn the top a few times, as if you are disengaging the rubber band, before letting your friends try and hook the rubber band!
33. THE COIN PADDLE TRICK
To make amazing magic with your special paddle you’ll need to learn a simple piece of sleightof-hand, called the “paddle move.”
Let’s break it down into easy stages. Be sure to practice each stage thoroughly before going on to the next stage!
First, hold the paddle by the stem between your first two fingers and thumb, so that one of the circle patterns on the paddle is facing you. Now, tilt the paddle down so that the circle pattern on the paddle is facing upwards and the audience can’t see the bottom of the paddle. This upward position of one of the circles will be your starting position, whenever you perform the “paddle move!”
Now, using your thumb, turn the paddle over by rolling the paddle outward. (If you are holding it with your left hand fingers and thumb, then roll it to the right. If you are holding it with your right hand fingers and thumb than roll it to the left).
Now, roll it back with your thumb, this time inwards. Keep practicing this rolling movement of your thumb, outwards, inwards, outwards, and inwards...
The next stage is very easy. While holding the paddle as before, but without rolling it, just turn your wrist over towards you, so that the back of your hand and the bottom of the paddle are both facing upwards. Practice this turning movement with your wrist to show both sides of the paddle. First towards you, then away from you, towards you, then away from you...
Now combine the two moves. Turn your wrist over toward you and at the same time roll the paddle outward. Now, roll the paddle inward as you turn your wrist away from you. It will look like you are showing both sides of the paddle, but you are actually showing the same side twice!
In order to get the timing just right, you will need to practice these combined movements often. The best way for you to know if the illusion is convincing is to try and fool yourself. Yes, when done correctly this illusion is so strong you will be able to fool yourself! Take a quarter and snap it onto the top of the paddle only.
NOTE: Some quarters will fit very snugly into the paddle, others will not. You might need to use some clear tape to secure the quarter onto the paddle. Now, when you do the “paddle move” it should look like there is a quarter on both sides! Now, flip the paddle over, blank side up and do the paddle move and it should look like the paddle is blank on both sides!
This sneaky “paddle move,” can be used to create some fantastic magic!
34. THE FIRST COIN TRICK
Put a coin into one side of your paddle. Bring out the paddle blank side up and, using the paddle move, show both sides to be apparently empty!
Claim that this is an amazing money maker and snap your fingers over the paddle. Turn it without using the paddle move to show that a coin has appeared on the paddle!
To remove the quarter you can tap the paddle gently against a hard surface! If your quarter fits very snugly on the paddle, bend the end very slightly and carefully to dislodge it.
35. MULTIPLYING COINS TRICK
Once you have made the coin appear, you can snap your fingers over the paddle again and using the paddle move, show that now a coin has apparently appeared on both sides of the paddle!
36. REAL MONEY FOLKS TRICK
Before you perform the next trick, have a quarter hidden in your hand.
When you are ready to perform, bring out the paddle with the quarter on the top side only. Then, using the paddle move, show that both sides contain quarters, when in fact only one side actually does!
Now, pretend to remove the underneath coin from the paddle with your free hand. Since there isn’t a coin there, you will have to act a little bit. Now, put the coin you had hidden in your hand onto the table. They will think it is the one you removed from the bottom of the coin paddle. Then openly remove the top quarter and put it next to it. This convinces people that there really were quarters on both sides of the paddle!
37. REBOUND TRICK
Before the trick, have a quarter hidden in your hand as before. Start the trick with another quarter on the top of the paddle only! You must now make believe that you are going to remove the quarter from the top of the paddle.
As your hand covers the top of the paddle give the paddle a half twist bringing the empty side upward, and at the same time bring into view the coin that was hidden in your hand. With a little practice, this looks just as though you have taken the quarter from the paddle.
Display the quarter before putting it into your pocket. Then using the paddle move, show the paddle to be empty on both sides as you say, “Have you heard of the rebound effect?” Now, turn your paddle over to show that the quarter has magically jumped from your pocket back to the paddle!
38. VANISHING MONEY II TRICK
Start with the quarter on the top side only. Now, using the paddle move, show that there are quarters on both sides. Now, pretend to remove the bottom quarter by putting your hand under the paddle, and pretend to take the quarter with your hand.
Then, with the fist of your hand closed, blow on your hand to make the coin vanish. Now, open your hand to show that it is gone, and then turn over the paddle to show that it is gone. Then snap your fingers and, using the paddle move, show both sides blank as you say, “It’s so hard to keep hold of money, you know!”
39. CARD MONTE TRICK
Take a look at your two special cards. One is a double-faced card, and the other is a doublebacked card. The audience is not supposed to know that these cards are trick cards!
Put the double-faced card on top of the double-backed card. Have the top card (double-faced), angled toward the right so you can see the bottom card, too, just like a fan of cards.
Hold the cards gently between your thumb on the top card and your first finger on the bottom card, towards the center of the cards. Show the cards to your friend by holding them as instructed and then turn your wrist over at the same time as you slide the top card to the left.
When your wrist is turned, they will now see the other side of the double-faced card, believing it to be the second card. Then turn your wrist back and again slide the top card, this time to the right.
Practice this turning motion, to get it right, so it doesn’t look like you are doing anything sneaky. Then take the top card (double-faced), show it to your friend and put it behind your back as you ask your friend what card that leaves in your hand. They will of course say the name of the card they just saw. With your hand still behind your back, simply turn the card over, and then bring it out with the other side showing, proving them wrong.
For fun, this can be repeated a couple of times, but not too many, so they won’t get suspicious!
40. THE FRENCH DROP TRICK
If you want to look like a professional magician you will need to learn some sleight-of-hand.
One of the best sleights that a magician can do is called “The French Drop.” With this technique you can make a coin, ball or other small object seem to vanish from your hand.
With the left palm up and fingers curled in slightly, hold a coin between your first and second fingers and thumb of your left hand. Now with your right hand, palm down, reach as if you are going to take the coin. Your right thumb goes underneath the coin and your right fingers start to curl around it.
As soon as the coin is covered you let the coin fall down into your left hand. Close your right hand into a loose fist and hold it up as your left hand (secretly hiding the coin) drops down to your left side. It is very important to focus all attention onto your right hand just as if the coin were there! You can now slowly open your hand to show that the coin has vanished!
As you make it vanish you can sneakily put your left hand into your pocket and leave the coin behind! Make sure to practice this move before trying it on your helpers. You’ll find that watching yourself in a mirror will really help you get all the angles right!
41. PERPLEXING BEADS TRICK
Examine the colored beads carefully and you will see that two of them are the same color and are slightly larger than the other two. If you put one of the larger beads into the tube it will not come out of the other side because it is too wide. This is the magic secret that will allow you to perform some pretty cool effects!
Before your performance, secretly place one of the larger beads into the tube. While performing the trick, hold the tube so the hidden bead doesn’t drop out. Now place either one of the small beads into the other end of the tube. Then place the other small bead into that end and then finally the other large bead and have the spectator remember the color order of the beads.
Now, tip the tube over so the original hidden bead comes out with the two smaller beads behind it. It will look like you magically changed the color order inside of the tube! The large bead that you put in last will be safely hidden away on the other side.
If you want to get rid of that bead at the end of the effect so you can hand the tube out for examination, simply tilt the tube over into your hand as the spectator is looking at the other beads. Then close your hand around the bead as it drops into your hand. Then place the now empty tube on the table as you casually put your hand in your pocket, getting rid of the extra bead!
42. THE JUMPING BEAD TRICK
Before you show this next trick, have one of the larger beads hidden in your hand. Secretly holding something in your hand while making your hand look as natural as possible is called “palming.”
You should practice palming coins and small objects if you want to become a professional magician. Because the beads are relatively small, palming one should be fairly easy to do.
You can hold the bead with your pinky and ring finger at the bend of the fingers near the palm in what magicians call a “finger palm”, and still keep you hand looking natural. Most people won’t realize that you have something hidden there!
When you are ready to perform the trick, take one of the smaller beads with your other hand and place it into the hand that you have the hidden bead. A natural way to do this is to start to close the hand you have the hidden bead in as you pick up the other bead from the table.
Place this bead into the top of your closed fist as you say the color of the bead. Then pick up the other small bead and drop it into your closed fist and say the color.
Finally, stand the tube upright on the table and drop in the large bead as you say the color. Then say a few magic words and then pick the tube straight up showing that it has disappeared. Then stick the tube with the hidden bead still in it in your pocket, as open you hand to show all three beads!
If the spectators ask to see the tube, take it out of your pocket, but first secretly turn it over so the hidden bead falls out and stays in your pocket!
43. THE APPEARING BEAD TRICK
Before your show, secretly hide one of the large beads in the tube, and leave the tube standing up on the table. When you are ready to perform the trick, lift the tube straight up to show that there are no beads in it.
Then, secretly turn the tube over as you make a magical gesture with your other hand. Thenn lift the tube up again and they will see the bead. It will look like you conjured it up from thin air!
44. THE VANISHING BEAD TRICK
You can combine the “Appearing Bead” trick and the “French Drop” that you learned earlier for an awesome trick!
Perform the “Appearing Bead” trick, but don’t lift off the tube to show the bead just yet. Take the second large sized bead and vanish it with the “French Drop.” Then lift up the tube and show that it has reappeared!
45. THE MAGIC COIN TRICK TRICK
Your little box can hold one or a number of coins. Despite its very simple look it is capable of performing some devastating magic!
Have the round box on your fingers and put a coin in it. As you reach for the lid of the box, let the box turn over in your hand, by closing your fingers a little. Put the lid of the box onto the bottom of the box!
It looks as though the coin is trapped in the box but, because the box is upside down, it isn’t! Pretty sneaky, huh? You can now lift up the box and put it on the table, leaving the coin behind in your hand. Be careful not to let anybody see the coin!
Pick up the box and toss it in the air. It lands on the table and comes apart to show that the coin has vanished! Because the box is moving rapidly, it is impossible for your friends to see which way up it was.
46. PENETRATING COIN TRICK
Before your show, use a permanent marker to put an X onto a quarter. Put this quarter underneath a plate during your show. Show your friends another quarter and draw an X on it making it look just like the one on the coin hidden underneath the plate. Put this coin inside your box, stealing the coin secretly as you do so.
Claim that the coin will vanish from the box and appear on the plate. Open the box to show that the coin has vanished but, horrors, it is not on the plate! After pretending to be puzzled for a few moments lift up the plate, “discover” the coin and say, “Wow, the magic is even stronger than I thought!”
47. PUZZLING BOOMERANGS TRICK
This amazing optical illusion will have your audience shaking their heads in disbelief.
Place one of your boomerangs on top of the other—you’ll find that they are exactly the same size. When using them in your show, put the boomerangs on the table, one directly above the other. The bottom one will appear to be bigger than the top one. This illusion is so convincing that you may even fool yourself the first few times you try it!
Now pick up the top boomerang and pretend to stretch it, then replace it—but under the one still on the table. Suddenly the “shorter” boomerang will appear to be the longer one! You can repeat this a few times to totally confuse your audience.
Finish by saying, “Now I’ll make them both the same size!” Snap your fingers over the boomerangs, and then demonstrate that they are in fact the same length by placing one on top of the other!
48. THE MONEY TUBE TRICK
Your Money Tube is a neat magical apparatus that will allow you to make objects appear, disappear and change from one thing into another.
It is made up of three parts, the cap, the tube and a secret smaller tube (insert) that fits inside of the larger one. The audience is not supposed to know about this secret insert!
Set the tube with the special insert inside with the cap on top. Now hold the cap firmly between your thumb and first finger of one hand, and with your other hand pull the tube straight down. You will notice that the cap and insert are still together in your first hand. Keep your fingers around the special insert, hiding it from the audience.
It should look like you are holding the cap only! Now let’s learn to do some cool magic with your Money Tube.
49. MONEY FIBERS TRICK
Before your show, put a small length of colored thread inside of the tube and then place the secret insert on top, but leave the cap off.
When you are ready to perform the trick, borrow a dollar bill from someone in the audience. You will need to fold up the dollar bill so it fits inside of the tube. Tell the audience that you will now make the dollar bill vanish.
Make a few magical passes over the tube and then remove the insert as you were taught earlier. Tip out the colored thread and say, “Well, I made most of the dollar bill vanish. Do you know how money has thread in it, well it seems that is all that’s left!”
50. GHOST WRITING TRICK
You can use your Money Tube for more than just money tricks. Before your show, write a message on a small slip of paper and fold it up. It’s especially cool if this is some information about your helper such as their name or age.
Hide the paper in the tube with the insert on top of it. During your show, display a blank piece of paper and fold it up. Put it into the tube (really the insert) and put on the lid. Claim that a friendly ghost lives in the tube and that he’s going to write something about your helper. Remove the lid (and insert) and tip out the paper.
Let your helper open it up to discover the ghostly writing!
51. A SNEAKY TACTIC TRICK
If you are at all worried about stealing away the hidden insert behind your fingers you can instead cover the Money Tube with a small square of tissue saying that you are totally isolating it. When you remove the tissue take the cap and insert with it giving you much more cover to conceal the stolen insert!
52. THE PENCIL TRICK
In addition to your picture frame, you’ll need a small playing card that you are willing to have destroyed or a piece of very thin cardboard as well as a pencil or pen.
Before your show, slide one end of the playing card under the left or right side of the raised section of plastic (it looks like an eye) in the middle of the frame. The card will go past the circle in the middle and come out of the other side of the raised plastic. Make sure you place your card on the side of the frame with the wording on. On this side there is a locking mechanism, which is released when the playing card goes through.
After placing the playing card into the correct side of the frame, put your first finger behind the frame and, using slight pressure, slide the clear window on the other side of the frame, allowing the hole to show through the center of the eye.
To perform the effect, show the penetrating frame to be perfectly solid. You can even allow this amazing prop to be completely examined. When you place the playing card on the correct side of the frame and secretly slide the plastic window on the other side, you will now be able to poke a pencil or a pen through the playing card and have it come out through the other side of the frame. After you show both sides of the frame with the pencil sticking through, you can remove the pencil and secretly slide the plastic window back into place.
If you like, you can even place a playing card on both sides of the frame, but first make sure you place the first one on the side which releases the window, then move the plastic window to allow the hole to line up and then place the second card on the back side of the frame. Now you can push the pencil through two cards for an even more impressive effect!
53. COLOR VISION TRICK
You will notice that your Mind Reading Box is made up of three parts, the lid, the six sided picture cube and the square box.
While turning your back to the audience, ask one of them to put the picture cube in the box and remember which image is on top. Have them cover it, and then place the box in your hands behind your back. Turn around to face them, but keep the box in your hands behind your back. Tell them that you will now try and read their mind. Behind your back, move the lid from the top to the front side of the box.
Now, bring the box out, making sure that the top is uppermost and the open side is facing you. You will now be able to just glance at the opening and see what picture they picked. Make believe you are still trying to read their mind before naming the correct image. Then just put the box in your pocket and they will never be the wiser as to how you did it!
54. MIND READING BOX PROFESSIONAL ENDING TRICK
Instead of just putting the box in your pocket as in the previous trick, you can actually hand the box right back to your helper without them ever knowing that you were looking through an open side.
After you tell them the name of the picture they selected, put your right thumb over the open side covering the picture. With your left thumb and fingers, start to take off the lid as you rotate your right hand forward. This brings the open side upright. Now fully take off the lid and present the box and the lid to your helper to inspect!
55. MIND READING BOX PROFESSIONAL SPIN TRICK
You can even show all sides of the cube to be closed, even though one side will be open!
While performing the trick, hold the box in front of you in your left hand with your thumb on the bottom right hand corner of the box on the open side. Now place your first finger on the left hand corner furthest away from you on the top lid.
By using the first finger of your right hand you can now spin the box on an angle to the right. If you hold the box below their eye line, they will not be able to see the opening!
